Chapel by the Sea holds historical significance and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. Originally constructed in 1903 as a county schoolhouse, it was later purchased by three Captiva Island citizens in 1921 to serve as a Methodist-Episcopal Church. The building's architectural details, such as its facade, windows, and doors, reflect its early 20th century origins. The chapel's location by the sea and its surroundings, including trees and plants, make it a picturesque subject for photography, art, and social media posts. Its timeless charm and historic significance continue to attract visitors and locals alike.
